Exhibition “Crossing of the Self”
At the crossroads of embroidery, performance and installation, Niloufar Basiri unfolds a sensitive and committed work around the notions of identity, memory and transculturation.
Inspired by her own experience of exile and integration in France, she explores what it means to "feel at home" in a foreign land. Her work examines the tensions between belonging and otherness, between cultural heritage and transformation. In her performances, the body moves to the rhythm of Persian words derived from French, repeated until they are forgotten or mutated. In her embroideries, Persian miniatures meet Toile de Jouy fabrics, blending two imaginaries within scenes of everyday life. These visual intersections give rise to a hybrid space, an "elsewhere" that transcends geographical boundaries. Slow, patient, almost meditative, Niloufar Basiri's artistic gesture becomes a metaphor for the inner journey imposed by any migration: a crossing of the self, between transmission, transformation, and reinvention.
